Default 2.5CRD voyager starting probs another 1

hi our 04 2.5crd will not start on the key,it turns over fine,but it will start with a quick push/tow or easystart,this is the same hot or cold,
any ideas

but surely if it were glowplugs the it would start when warm??

As it's a CRD (common rail diesel) you are right. The old indirect injection diesels were a pig to start if even one of the glowplugs was o/c., but direct injector common rail is much easier. However, ease of starting varies with the maker and his design.
However, I'd still check that +12volt appears on the injectors during the yellow coil icon on dashboard, and that all glowplugs were OK. You do this by unhooking the connector on the plugtip, and check with your heavy current testlamp (old car headlamp with wires soldered on) between battery +ve. and plugtip -- you should get a fairly bright light, equal for all four. The plugs draw a big current.
If you find one or more are o/c., best replace with gen. Bosch.

I take it this leak is via the fuel rail valve back to tank, hence loss of pressure in rail. Getting to be a regular answer on here. Good return.

yep apparently the valve at the end of the rail was faulty

was this he mechanical over pressure valve or the rail pressure sensor (the one with the 3 pin electrical plug)

I recon he means the valve as when it leaks the pressure is not maintained.
