Default 2008 T&C Intermittent Acceleration Growl

Our 2008 T&C has had an intermittent growl (front area of vehicle) for awhile and no luck figuring out the culprit. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about this problem? It only happens when I moderately or briskly accelerate from a standing stop. It doesn’t appear to be affected by temperature, season, direction, etc. Just very random and sporadic. It’s been there and for a number of years. Doesn’t get worse. Doesn’t get better. But would like to repair it. It’s making us nuts. Thanks if anyone has any info.

Lou

Vehicle build date is 2-08. We had the L&R bearings changed (under the recall) at 36,000 mi back in 2011. Could the same issue be happening again? Will they do a 2nd replacement? How can we isolate if this is the problem? Thanks.

Default Same problem

Hey, I'm having the exact same problem with 08 t&c. Did the OP ever find out what the problem was?

Hey Dan,

I can't believe I never posted the results! Thanks for reminding me. Well it turned out to be something quite minor and it really was more of a rattle than a growl (I had to redefine the noise after finding out what the problem was). So there were a couple of nuts, that fastened down an exhaust heat shield somewhere near the center of the steering rack, that were missing either due to removal during previous vehicle service or just spun off and, as such, whenever the engine would rock during acceleration, that shield would move as well and make contact with some vehicle component under there causing the rattle. A couple of nuts back on the studs and the problem vanished. In this case, the louder and more annoying the noise was, the smaller the problem as a result. Hope you have something similar. Might be worth a look.

Default 2011 t&c growl

I'm dealing with this right now. Just happens with acceleration from a standing stop (worse on inclines). Hoping that it's the same thing, as I'm not wanting to break the bank with repairs.
