2008 T and C rear caliper/e- brake cable
I am having an issue where my left rear caliper is seizing-up. I had a similar problem with my right front, ended up replacing the caliper and rotor.
I would like to switch out the left rear caliper, but I notice the e-brake system is integrated with the caliper. My question is, how difficult is it to remove/replace the e-brake cable and does any one have any detailed instructions to do so? Thanks! |
Sounds more like a Calipher renewal required due to internal seals sticking.

Hi
It might be worth taking out the caliper mounting bolts and cleaning them and refitting them with a little lube. (I have just had mine apart and the 'shiny' part was covered in sticky rubber crap----I wire brushed them and refitted with silicone grease)--------I bought new pistons for the calipers but they are releasing just fine now so they will stay in their box until I have to strip the brakes down again (or they start binding again.) Thanks- when you say "caliper renewel" are you referring to a re-build? I typically replace calipers rather than rebuild (little more expensive but less time for me). When you do a renewel or rebuild do you still need to completely remove the caliper (and parking brake cable)?

Easier to rebuild with Caliper off. Problem is getting right piston and seals as Chrysler will want to sell you a rebuilt unit. A Motorfactor can get you rebuilt units, usually part exchange. Use the red brake grease on rebuild. Might get pistons & seals on Flee-bay..
Way back in 70's you could buy Caliper and cylinder repair kits complete with pistons, seals, nipples and outer dust seals...Long Gone... |
Thanks all, but that leads me to my original question, how do I remove and replace the parking brake cable from the caliper?

I take it you've not got inside disc brake shoes like mine, so is it electric handbrake ?
