I really can't afford to go to a dealer at this time that is why I was trying to see if it can be fixed without a dealer.

If you feel like you are capable of tackling this repair on your own, then I would say to go ahead and do the repair yourself. Make sure you disconnect the battery first. I ordered a clock spring from an actual Chrysler/Dodge dealer off of eBay and it was much cheaper. The dealer isn’t necessary for this repair, unless you just don’t feel like you can get it accomplished on your own.
Good luck!

Default Steering angle sensor

Just and FYI on the clock spring/angle sensor topic. aftermarket electronic parts are usually iffy, however i used a steering angle sensor from NAPA in my 08 Aspen and have not had any issues. It was 200$ vs the dealers 700

Default Grinding noise after clock spring replacement

Hi,
We have an 08 dodge caravan. The esp bas light was on. It needed a new steer angle sensor/clock spring. We had the clock spring replaced. That fixed the esp light but now it makes a horrible grinding noise while turning to the left at higher speeds. Any ideas

the clock spring is inside on the steering column this noise at higher speed would be outside on the wheel the speed of the car would have nothing to do with a noise on a clock spring.

Hello I have the same problem with my 2008 town&country..I took it to the mechanic He said that replacing the Abs sensor the problem will be solved but I read your post and I think what He said won't solve the problem...just I would like to know what another research you did before to get your last conclusion about the steering angle sensor was the issue .
thanks

It"s been some time since i did this repair on our van, however, your ABS has more to do with a "controlled" stop (meaning a pedal vibration when ABS is activating). The steering angle sensor gave that ABS activation "feeling" (grinding) upon acceleration and a slight turn of the steering wheel. The esp/bas lights were illuminated on the instrument cluster also and if this would have been an abs/wheel speed sensor problem, there wouldn't have been any malfunction lamp for the traction control/esp. I hope you're able to get your problem solved, please post your results. thanks!
