Default 2013 T&C overheating & A/C issue. HELP

Hi, I'm new to the forums & look forward to the knowledge you all have to offer.

We bought a used 2013 T&C in Jan. The van didn't start showing issues until the outside temps started to hit 95+ degrees outside. Yay for Az weather.

Here is what is happening. The temp gauge raises to 3/4. Once it hits 3/4 it slows the A/C down & starts to warm it up (but the air never gets hot, just gets to a lukewarm temp). The RPM bounces up & down at 1 & when sitting idle & makes an audible click. The temp gauge reading of 3/4 happens when idling, accelerating, & slowing down. She only seems to cool when maintaining a speed. She fully overheated once & I had to have her towed to the mechanic.

I've had her into the mechanic twice (well 3 times as she's there now). She's had her thermostat (the time it was towed) & compressor replaced but the issue continues.

What could they possibly be missing? What do I need to ask them to look at to get them to look outside the box & get this issue fixed?

Thx for your input.

Hi LuckyFinCPST,

Has your T&C ever been diagnosed at a Chrysler dealership, or checked for software flashes for the HVAC system?

No, my van has not been diagnosed by a Chrysler dealership, only through the Chevy dealership I bought it through as my extended warranty has no deductible through them.

They currently still have my van so I'm going to call & ask if they've done the software check.

Ty & I'll let you know what's said.

"She only seems to cool when maintaining a speed."

At speed there's sufficient air flowing through the radiator and A/C condenser to cool the engine coolant and A/C condenser. When you slow down or come to a stop the radiator cooling fans spin to draw air through the radiator and condenser. Are the cooling fans spinning? They should turn on either when engine temp rises or within seconds of turning on the A/C.

You guys are amazing & spot on.

I called my service guy on Thurs & left a message for him. I didn't get a call back so I went over there after my hubby returned from work. I talked with another service guy as mine was gone for the day. He viewed the info on my van & saw convo transcripts between the technician & my service guy saying that it appears that my fans are not working properly. That they are spinning but not nearly at the speed they should be.

I asked the service guy if the transcripts indicate if they have done a software check of the HVAC like ChryslerCares suggested & he said he wasn't sure but that he'd bring it up to my service the next day. The next day (Fri) my service called & said that it appears to be a computer issue for the fans but that a Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep dealership needs to do the troubleshooting. They called my warranty company (because thank goodness the computer is covered) & got approval to send it to one & had her taken over there yesterday.

So now I await word on the computer issues.

I thank you guys so very much for your help & input & appreciate it if you have anymore & I will, of course, will let you know the full outcome.

Hmm. Maybe the high speed relay isn't being powered or the relay itself is toast.

I have a similar issue with my 2014. I replaced a relay next to the radiator, but found there are two identical relays there. Are these the high speed relays? If so where is the low speed relay?.

My a/c starts to blow cold at low speeds, but runs fine at high speeds. Are there a/c switches too?

Thanks,

Paul

Never touched a 5th generation van so I can only go on what forums say and what I read elsewhere. I'm only aware of a single "high speed" relay next to the rad. The "low speed" relay is in the TIPM (Fuse Box).

Model year? Your engine temp is fine but your a/c is blowing hot air? 80% of a/c problems are caused by low refrigerant. Have the pressures checked and reserviced adding a dye in the process so the leak can be tracked down. Also check the fuse for the compressor clutch and swap the relay in the TIPM.
