Default Air Con

Hi guys.
Im having trouble with the air con in my 2.8 CRD. i had it re gassed but its not cold. it used to drop revs at idle when you pressed the A/C switch. Now it don't, Im thinking its the solenoid or the pump as i've swapped the fuse and no change. is there anything i can try.
Thanks
Bee

Not sure if it still applies to later vans but on the older models if the gas pressure dropped below a certain level it deactivated the AC pump in-order to protect it, and required a reset after the gas was top off. Now this was done by holding down a combination of button, I think the AC and something else, I don't remember. However it put the system into a test mode which once it detected the gas pressure was back into a safe zone reactivated the system.

most likey cause is that you have a leak and the low pressure lock out switch is stopping the AC clutch engaging.

When they re-gassed it did they say if it was low or empty of refrigerant ?

If so, then almost certainly you have a leak.

You can also just remove the AC clutch relay and just "jumper" the clutch directly to 12v, it should engage with a click and the center of the compressor should start to spin.

If it does, and the AC still doesn't blow cold, you have no refrigerant in the system.

Hi Guys.
They said they took out 400grams and put 750grams back in. they leek tested the system and came up no leeks. I had a new A/C condenser two years ago. It was re-gassed then.
How do I put the system into a test mode?
Thanks
Bee

Hi,

My money is on the A/C clutch failing as that's what I had on my previous GV and on several I test drove before buying.
To test as matgriff says you can jumper one of the relays to engage the clutch and see if it engages (This is what makes the engine RPM dip). There are lots of posts but essentially,
Take a look in the fusebox for the clutch relay, take it out and jump pin 87 and 80 (Whilst engine running). You should hear the click and hear the engine RPM dip a little. If it does this then the clutch is good, so you then need to start working back from there (Next one would be to check the relay) and so on.

That should help, good luck with it.

Hi Bee this is how its done on the older vans, sorry couldn't find anything for the later ones so I hope it will help. Now this runs a full reset on the HVAC system and also fixes blend door issues but it also kicked my AC compressor into life on my 98 after a recharge!

Now My Mercedes did the same, after a recharge the pump would not engage until it had been reset.

Hi, I also had problems with my air conditioning. I tried to fill it with gas myself and I did something wrong. I would better call air conditioning repair service if you didn't want to break it.
