Air Con Woes
Be careful with "FREE" checks as they will almost always say sorry guv it needs a service, although the system should be serviced every two years or end up like my compressor did through lack of lubricant in the system.
To find out if you have gas although NOT RECOMMENDED find the small connection on the air con pipes, unscrew the cap and with a long thin screw driver nudge the end of the valve, it looks like a tire pressure valve, wear some gloves and keep eyes away. if it hisses you have gas, but how much is any ones guess.

If i go i tell them that i want only check,,no service or any other extras. I choose option Free check ,, No any other. If i want something else then i choose that option . Not this time.
If that was the case I would of had it done
Out of many places, I actually recommend Kwik Fit for aircon checks and re gassing, they have a policy, if they re-gas and it doesn't make the car cooler they'll try again and if not, no charge.
Very handy, as I had a locked up clutch on my last GV, but wasn't 100% sure on the issue, so went in to get a re-gas just to try it, and sure enough no difference, and they even said take it back a second day and they'll check it and see what's wrong, so it was re-gassed twice, they checked and confirmed seized clutch and no charge for it, so I was really quite impressed. Hence I tend to get tyres and exhausts from that Kwik Fit garage now as they do appear to care about what they do (All older chaps in the garage rather than young-ones, very ageist (I'm in my 30's so I guess I can say that!) of me but all the same I do think that makes a difference)
Hope you can get it sorted.

Does your aircon actually work ie compressor engaging when pressing the AC switch inside the car? If not then nobody can determine how much refrigerant is in that system by attaching manifolds, unless it is evacuated. With regards to refrigerant, each type has a temperature pressure relationship. So no matter if there is 1 ounce or 300 pounds of refrigerant in a system a static reading will show the same pressure. It more than likely needs a recharge but do not get fooled by these aircon techs. It wasn't until I completed my course that I realised how dodgy some of them can be.......
Hope it is a simple fix.
