Default Airbag warning light

The airbag warning light started coming on intermitently a couple weeks ago - it would come on for some drives and wouldn't on others. Then, since a week or so ago it's been on consistently every ride. I checked codes, none are stored. I replaced the clock spring, no change. The horn and cruise work fine, but I figured it was worth $25 to try it.
So, what else can I try before I give up and bring it in? I'm really tempted to just ignore and forget it, is there any chance the bag could deploy without an accident while driving? any help appreciated.

2 things....How did you check for codes....Generic scan equipment will usually not interface with SRS.....And if the light is on..there is a code stored.

2) 25 bucks for a clockspring sounds like Junkyard parts...And they are not to be trusted.

Year make and model?????

2002 t&c. I bought it from Rock Auto, and it looks absolutely identical to the one that was in there - same manufacturer. Airbag light was off since I bought it 2 years ago until a couple weeks ago. Not sure what you think I should have paid for a clock spring, every one I found on my search was $25-$30.

Since I can't edit my post I'll reply to it. Couple questions: am I supposed to find the airbag code at the same connector as engine light codes or is it at another location? also, is there anything I'm supposed to do to reset the light?

You can reset the light all you want. It's still going to keep coming on if you don't fix the problem. YES, there is a good chance your airbag will NOT deploy if there is a DTC. No, a cheap OBD scanner will not read the Airbag module...or any other module except basic engine for that matter. If you don't have a scan tool to read the airbag you will get nowhere.

Which brings me back to my original question - are there any other easy things to try before paying a dealer to fix it?

I'm pretty sure that your front airbag senosrs are faulty. They are cheap and easy to replace. This is a common problem - corroded contacts hence intermittent problems at first!

Edit: Sorry, the above only applies to 2005-2006 models: http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/23/c...-airbag-issue/
