Default RE: Chrysler Town & Country reliability - how does it compare?

Results were recently updated again. Results for the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan this time around, in terms of successful repair trips per 100 vehicles per year:

2001: 176, worse than average, marginal sample size

2002: 106, average, marginal sample size

2003: 74, average

2004: insufficient data

2005: 93 (uptick because of refresh?), average

2006: 68, average

2007: insufficient data

2008: continues to have a very high repair rate, 157 successful repair trips per year per 100 vehicles. This is nearly three times the average 2008.

With more participants, we could provide more precise results and cover all model years.

For the details on the minivans and 170+ other models, and to sign up to help out:

Updated repair rates for the Chrysler Town & Country next week. Additional participants always helpful, and especially needed for the 2007 and 2009.

We have updated results, and with 100 repair trips per 100 cars per year the 2008 Chrysler minivans remain worse than average, but have improved quite a bit since the November results.

A big thanks to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May, August, and November. Additional participants needed, especially for the 2009--let's find out how much Chrysler improved for the second model year.

We now have a separate results page for each model that includes the results for competitors. The page for the Chrysler Town & Country, which includes data for both the Chrysler and the Dodge:

Just a thought on this (and I have considerable experience of co-running another forum for the last 5 years for a different vehicle) - forums are places where you find people who have problems with their vehicles. Very few people join a forum just to sya that their vehicle is running smoothly with no problems whatsoever. This means that any survey based on a forum gives a one-sided view. That's not to say that I don't think this is worthwhile - on the contrary, I think without this sort of facility, a lot of vehicles wouldn't be running as a lot of us can't affort Chrysler service prices. Where a forum, and survey drawn from it, is very useful is to highlight particular problems (which the manufacturers may wish to keep quiet to avoid a recall) and to spread knowledge of the best fix available.

That's a good point. Have you collected data on what the problems were? On my '01 I seem to go through a blower speed controller every 18 months or so, I've seen plenty of posts asking about that, but it would be interesting to see numbers on it.

No, I'm afraid not - I'm relatively new to this forum. The expert users on here may know of the more common faults by heart since they have probably helped to fix most of them - I certainly know of most on the other forum I mentioned (www.c1forum.co.uk if you are interested) - but it's time consuming. The more common faults could be made sticky topics perhaps in a 'common faults' category.

Depends on the forum. But either way, the survey process is designed around this. People report problems going forward--they cannot report old problems on the main survey. So even if they join because they had problems and this led them to the forum, those old problems cannot distort the results. This also isn't a one-time survey. It's continuous. Most people have been members for over a year, and some are already on their second or even third vehicle sign joining.

In any given month only about one in ten owners reports a repair. Seems about right, no?

662 Chrysler minivan owners signed up so far. A great start, but more remain needed to cover all years from 1995 on.

Help get your year included:
