Hi my 2002 alloy wheels are in a shocking state and look like they were bady finished from the factory - has anyone been back to Chrysler on this issue or do most people just get them refurbed?

 

Alloys typically look bad after 8 years, you're in London so you have harsh winters with snow and slush and all that. Try some of those alloy cleaning products and elbow grease, you may get the shine back.

 

The wheels are corroded with lacquer peel being the main culprit! I like having nice looking cars and the after having detailed the voyager it looks good but the wheels are a real let down at the moment - might have a go at refurbing them myself!

Anyone got a spare set they gancy selling on the cheap?

 

They are corroded with the lacquer peeling on every alloy. I have just spent 2 days polishing and cleaning (took 6 hours just to get the roof looking good!) and the alloys let it down badly.

Don't worry, I have a 2003 Land Rover that looks the same, the spare wheel is the worst of all of them and it has never even been removed from the back door - go figure.

 

The alloys on my 2004 Voyager are in awful state also.....I'd be interested to hear how your refurb goes.

 

Take it to an auto detail shop - or car valet in the UK - and see what they will charge. They have the tools and cleaners to do the job, and best of all the elbow grease.

 

Well a cheap refurb will cost at least £75 per wheel, to do it myself will cost about £20 for the wet and dry paper, primer, paint and lacquer.

Just need to find a spare set of alloys cause it will take me about 5 -6 hours per corner!

If anyone knows of a set going cheap then let me know!

 

If you want a perfect finish that won't corrode, then you need to get them powder coated. Otherwise if you have them polished, and then lacquered, the alloy will start corroding before you even get them lacquered, hence after 4 -5 years, they start to lift the lacquear (the constant heat/cool cycles don't help either).

 

Hi, new to Voyager, had my wheels done by the dealer in Cardiff, they look nice now, although they are painted the workmanship is real good. They told me thier 'man' charges £225 for a set...so am well pleased I didn't have pa,y or do them myself.
I do agree with dcm1971...powder coating is the way to go.
