FRONT BRAKE PROBLEMS - VOYAGER 2.5 CRD Year 2006
 

Hello, I need help with a problem with my front brakes.
About one year ago, whilst driving in normal city traffic conditions, after braking a few times the left front brake progressively started to remain slightly engaged causing the disc and pads to overheat. As the car had been stationary for a long time, my mechanic decided to change the front left hydraulic tube, after this the car apparently went well for some time.
Recently, the problem presented itself again whilst driving on a mountain road but without in anyway driving the car hard. This time it happened to both front brakes. the impression was that the clamps that hold the pads do not open again completely when I release the brake pedal, which looses play engaging immediately.
This time the mechanic changes the discs (because they had warped), the pads and reconditioned the clamps (with kit code 0506 6379 AA) of course also changing the hydraulic brake oil and again the problems went away.
Last week again whilst driving absolutely calmly on a mountain road it happened again. we cooled the wheels with water and the problem stopped, allowing me to do 400k of motorway without problem, and also now there would seem to be no anomalies.
My mechanic does not know what to do at this stage also because he has been unable to witness the problem directly and he is afraid of making me spend money for solutions that don't work
Has anyone had the same problem and, if so, what's the solution!

Quite a common problem on the Voyager CRD.

It's the brake calipers. The pistons are made of a kind of ceramic material (at least they were on my 2001)

When you push the pistons back into the calipers, eg when you fit new pads, then they tend to stick on the rubber seals, which makes the brakes drag.

You can get re-build kits with new steel pistons, this cures the problems.

Generally it's intermittent, hapens some days and not others. Just Google it there's plenty of info about it.

And rebuilt the pistons/seals in the calipers with red brake grease and that will give the pistons better lubrication. New dust covers of course.

The kits I used came complete with pistons, seals & red grease :-)

I have tested the brakes for 15000 km sometimes even in heavy conditions (mountain roads with trailer with 3 motorcycles on it) and it is working very well!
