Default Intermediate starting problem

Hi all I have 2009 t/c sometimes it just turns over and over but just won't start. The only way to get it to start is to do the key dance. But has never had a code in the system. sometimes it will start and try to run like it's at a very low idle then you have to turn it of and try again tell it starts. Any help would be appreciated. It has the 3.3 engine and 142 thousand miles. Thanks David

Hi David,

I suspect the key dance isn't what is getting it started, but by turning the ignition on and off you're forcing the fuel pump to run a few times to 'prime' the system and allow it to start.

Rather than doing the key dance, turn the ignition key to on and let the fuel pump run a minute (It will cut out automatically so you might need to do that a couple of times) and then see if it starts.

If so, then it sounds like the common fuel pump/leak problem that has a lot of hits if you search along those lines.

I had the same issue and a good mechanic diagnosed the problem and replaced FUEL PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE and FUEL FILTER
It starts first time now

FUEL PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE..........
mmmm...
Couldn't that be my problem as well?
My problem is a very very bad cold start.. I often use 'start pilot spray can' to get the car going
I replaced lift pump, fuel filter and glow spirals already but nothing helped yet.
I see that valve is like $100,- and seems easy to replace...
Maybe I should try that too..

Lets not get confused here now Vmaxxer as we're starting with a petrol V6. But saying that for-by relief valve on fuel rail on a Diesel don't forget the 4 main injectors that will stop starting due to lack of pressure that ECU needs to signal start. Answer, check spill off.
Ahhhh Vmaxxer just found your same fault back 29/06 and still same reply...Like a Ground Hog day...

you certainly gotta check fuel pressure valve... fuel filter and crankshaft and camshaft sensor as well... try keydance first .... but that wouldn't show any fault with fuel pressure valve

All the best

Yeah my problem is around for some time and much has been discussed already

Today I was able to order a brandnew pressure relief valve and a camshaft sensor together for €70,- so I just switch the both of them in any case.
perhaps I get lucky now..

I was so very convinced I found the cause for bad cold start when I replaced the lift pump because the old one was in a very bad shape..
Imagine my disappointment when the bastard car wouldn't start the first morning it was little bit cold

Low compression
Low fuel pressure
Low cranking speed – flat battery
Glow plugs or relay faulty
Insufficient fuel supply
Fuel quality & contamination
Air – vacuum in fuel supply
Blocked fuel supply – filters
Faulty diesel injectors

Using the hand primer pump 1st thing in the morning is it already hard or does it need several presses to prime the LP side ?
