Just got a 1997 that I am thrilled with but now everyone is warning about tranny problems. Short of changing the fluid and screen is there anything is to do. What is the cost to rebuilt if they go bad? Ironically picked it up because the tranny on my 1995 Lincoln just went out.

its not that they go bad that often its just when they do their is usually a hole in the case when they blow.
just make sure if your towing you have a trans cooler ya dont want to overheat the fluid.
i just sold my 96 awhile back and when i baught it the trans was blown at 112,000 but they towed stuff and it did not have a cooler.

 

got mine rebuild last month at 178K and it cost me $1,600..
