Default Map (courtesy) Light Question

I just pulled a dimmed out light from the driver's side of the overhead console in our 05 T&C. It had a black film on it and the socket was partially melted. The passenger side one is clean but also has a blackened socket. A little research lead to this. The lights have been known to overheat and cause fires. So I am going to replace with LEDs. I have to buy new PC579 lights, (for the socket) because the Chrysler ones are soldered in. Most aftermarkets the bulb pulls out. Have any of you done this, and any recommendations for the LED itself?
