Default Newbie: Need Recommendation on 2003+ T&Cs

I have a 1988 Grand Caravan. This has been an amazing vehicle. Despite a few problems (valve stem seals, uses oil & AC problems) it has been reliable and comfortable. I hope to keep it running for at least 5 more years for my son to use in his commute to college. Biggest benefit is the girls won't be chasing after him for his car. Maybe someday they (the right kind) will chase him for his brains.

Anyway, my wife misses driving a van and I would like to get her a new (to us, not brand new-can't afford it, 2 college kids) van. I spent a little time in a 05 rental and thought the sto-n-go seats were not that comfortable. So I am thinking 2003 would be the best year for me to look for.

I am looking for recommendations on what to look out for.

Also, any experience with the 2004 or newer. Am I paranoid about the sto-n-go seat comfort?

thanks

Perhaps a little more information...Just curious why you've ruled out the 1996-2000 models. Do you do your own repairs? Are you concerned with getting something with more than 100,000 miles on it?

I have a '97 T&C with 126,000 miles on it. Just bought it a little over a month ago and am going through and doing all the little maintenance items right now, in addition to replacing a leaking water pump.

Have a look over at http://forum.chryslerminivan.net/for more information all all the models as well, if you haven't found it yet.

I have done most of the repairs. The engine repairs I had a Dodge tech do at his home business.

I am a member of 2 other sites that have been helpful.
www.allpar.com
forum.chryslerminivan.net

I tend to hold on to cars for a long time so I would like a newer car. Also I would like my wife to enjoy having a newer car.

From these sites I have gleaned that the 3.8l engine is preferred. I will occasionally tow a small boat (~1000 lbs).

I would like basic power options (seats, doors, windows), but don't need a lot of fancy options.
