Oil leak

We've just bought a high mileage Grand Voyager 2.5 CRD diesel Limited.
Got it home to discover a fairly major oil leak. :(

What's the most likely cause? What's the worst case scenario? and How much are we looking at?

Having it looked at on Friday.

You know an engine can leak oil from many places. Being a bit more specific as to the origin of the leak may help someone attempt an answer at your question.

Hi
Most likely rear crankshaft seal as that is the most common issue (well only issue really) but make sure you do all 3 seals. Do a search here for more info, I have covered this before.

Ok, had someone look at it this morning and not sure what it's technically called but it's the main gasket between the engine and the gear box that has gone? He's going to take the engine out, change the gasket, fit a new clutch and put new discs in the back brakes all for £720...thought that sounded quite reasonable to me?

Once its done we should end up with a pretty decent motor I think.

The electric doors have a tendency to stick sometimes. Hubby has WD40'd the chains, but they still seem to stick occasionally. Also the catch on te tail lift sticks if using the remote key, so that doesn't always work. But all in all I'm pleased with it.

I hope you mean remove the gearbox and not the engine.. You don't need to take out the engine to do this job.

Aah. You could be right there. My husband was the one that spoke to him. He did say he may as well put a new clutch in while he's got it out so it probably was the gerabox. The car has done 210,000..was an airport chauffeur car before so all motorway miles.

Yep this should be what I said it should be but do make sure they do all 3 seal.

Stroudie 03-27-2009 02:39 PM

When you say all 3 seals can you elaborate, so I can phone him and ask him?
Really appreciate all you help guys. And any clues on the doors sticking...is this a common fault?

The rear main seal + 2 “o” ring seals read this post https://www.chryslerforum.com/forum/...ead.php?t=7402

Hi
Just so you can compare prices this is from dealer menu pricing
05069000AD CLUTCH PACKAGE NONE £301.88 1 £301.88
04641947AA BEARING CLUTCH RELEA £62.49 1 £62.49
Labour time 3.8 hours total price £746.75 this is including vat not + vat
Will need to add about another .5 labour to change the seals + price of seals.

This price is based on a 2005 on if older 2000 to 2005 the clutch is more expensive
05069000AB CLUTCH PACKAGE NONE 1 £481.85
Same bearing as above.
This is only an estimate based on menu pricing today only call your dealer to check for any changes.
Hope this helps you
