Plymouth Voyager ABS recall
Hello all
I am over the pond in the UK. I drive a 1992 Plymouth Voyager which was imported from Phoenix Arizona in 1992. I drive the car from wheelchair
Just recently the ABS light came on and stayed on. To cut a long story short, my car is now down at a local Chrysler dealer. I since found out about the recall that was all to do the ABS brakes. The Chrysler dealer knew nothing about it but they did the recall anyway. They have now told me that the parts needed to fix the ABS are not included in the warranty. I don't altogether trust them as they contradict themselves sometimes .
I want to know whether or not I can claim the money back that it is going to cost to fix my car. I have been told that if certain parts have gone wrong then they will be covered, other parts won't be because I've had the car for more than 10 years. The thing is, if my car had had the recall when it should have, these problems may have been picked up before the 10 years was up. And since I only done 49,000 mi. in 14 years, that's not much.
I need to know a few more details about this diagnostic scanner/computer that they plug into the cars. Are they all the same? I was under the impression that they showed up error codes. According to the garage, their computer only shows the name of what's gone wrong. I have included an e-mail that I received from them this morning. This will explain what they say has gone wrong with my car and also what comes up on their diagnostic equipment. Any comments be very helpful and £2000 is a lot of money for me to spend fixing my car. One other thing I would like to add, I had to change the gearbox two years ago because it went wrong. At the time this same garage told me that the gearbox is for my make of car the not available any more so I had to go for a reconditioned gearbox which hasn't really then that good. I found out recently that the gearbox is fitted in my type of car that described as "lemons" comments about this would also be gratefully accepted.
Okay, here is the email
Thank you for your e-mail.
Original ABS defect required the change of the ABS control module.
Fault codes cleared.
ABS pump changed as part of recall.
Having completed all recall work and change of control module, further defect showing
Modulator Fault highlighten, this part is still on back order from Chrysler.
Part number R4683474.
I haven't as yet received a delivery date for the part.
Our diagnostic equipment lists the defective part name rather than a defect code.
I will let you know as soon as a delivery date is released.

SERVICE REPAIR TIPS
PLEASE PROVIDE A COPY OF THIS SHEET TO THE SERVICING TECHNICIAN
PRIOR TO ORDERING THIS PART, THE FOLLOWING MUST BE VERIFIED:
Please review recall 685 to confirm if your customer-s vehicle applies.
All recalls must be performed at franchised DCX dealerships. If this is a repeat hydraulic control unit failure, it is imperative that you check for internal scoring , scratches or pitting in the bore of the actuator prior toreplacement. In addition check the system operating pressures that are outlined within recall 685. The pressure test may identify an internal seal leaking within the hydraulic control Unit. This condition typically sets a lowaccumulator fault code DTC 06 and causes the pump to run more frequently or run continuously. This condition may cause a pump motor to fail. A seal kit is available to resolve the internal leak condition. Seal kit applications are as follows: For the AS body Actuators use P/N 04740086 and for the C/Y body use P/N 04740084
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAIMLERCHRYSLER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO BACK CHARGE DEALERS THAT DO NOT COMPLY WITH DCX WARRANTY AND POLICY PROCEDURES AS OUTLINED IN THE DEALER POLICIES AND PROCEDURES MANUAL
the part is on back order but their is a dealer or two that do have it in stock if you need their numbers i can give them to you
