power steering
car is voyager Mk III, year of 1997.
as the regular service is aproaching, I would like to change the oil in the power steering system.
service manual does not specify when to make that, but I would still like to change it after 10 years and 200 000 km.
so, is there a drain bolt on the system and where is it?
manual says it will take 1,2 liter of fluid. true?
which type of fluid do you use in service?
if I do it at home, is there anything special I should take care about concerning deairing the system?
thanks.

RE: power steering
theres no easy way to drain the pump.if I was to guess i would say disconnect the return lineon the pump.(thats the one with the hose clamp around it)and drain it out that way.use atf 4 to refill.moe

RE: power steering
thanks.
I will see to it on saturday. service guy told me that I would probably have to take off the steering rack if I want all of the oil out.
even if I get half of it new, it's still OK.
and filling up? nothing special?
just top it up and start the engine? no special procedures?

RE: power steering
yes no big deal.just put some in till you see it .don't over fill it .let in run and get the air out.work the wheel back anf forth to the stops.done!you don't have to drain the rack.waste of your money and time.

what kind of seal is there, hose - pump joint?
is it a 1/4" copper washer?

RE: power steering
I don't think you should use ATF+4 in a third generation van (96-00) as they used PS fluid #MS5931 or MS9933. Here is the relevant TSB:
TSB Power Steering Fluid
Note that the TSB states you should not even top up with ATF+4 if your system has PS fluid #MS5931 or MS9933. I don't know the consequences of doing so, perhaps someone else will comment.

RE: power steering
well, moe said ATF 4, not 4+.
salesman in the shop has info on some MS fluids like you said.
my owners manual states some MOPAR as the original, different from others (9602)
and that was the main reason why I asked.
now, all the info says that I should use MS 5931, so that's what I'll use. when I decide to try to do it.
one more thing. what does TSB stand for?
