Exclamation Pre Tensioner £386 fitted !!!!!

Hi to All,
My 2004 Voyager airbag light is on.
My Chrysler Garage tell me that the drivers side seatbelt pretensioner is open circuit, and will cost (here in Scotland) £386.40 to fit and replace!!!!!!!!
It must be gold plated!!!
Any of you guys know if i can purchase a pre tensioner myself and if it is difficult to fit.
If the above is possible are there any chances of firing the airbags ?

Cheers

Gerry

the battery should be disconnect long enough for the air bag system to discharge before working on the system after that it should be safe. The seat belt tensioner is part of the seat belt stork and easy to change. 3 screws hold the side cover then 1 bolt and the electrical plug.
Don’t touch the terminals of the old or new tensioner. Have been told static build up in the body can set it off.
Have you / they checked the wiring not just pulled the code?
I do advice the dealer fits this to be safe.

Thanks for the reply,
I think they have just pulled the code, because the airbag light has been intermittent, and i have checked the connectors under the drivers seat, after which the airbag light was out, then after another check the airbag light was on again !
My feeling is that there may be a connector or wire giving the open circuit .
I would like to test the cable for continuity, ie disconnect at both ends and test with a multimeter.
Thankyou for the sound advice !
Will disconnect the battery sometime this weekend and have a go.
Glad you mentioned about the static, never thought of that one !!

Cheers

Gerry
