RADIATOR RELAY PROBLEMS

Hi all,
I'm having problems with my radiator fans , first they wouldn't turn off, i pulled the fuse to stop them and refitted it the following day, the fans didn't start. Now the fans won't run at all!

I suspect the solid-state fan relay next to the radiator on the left side of the car below the air filter housing.
I've checked that its getting 12volts from the battery, that the funs start if i jump across the two thick wires. OK. and its getting a good earth [ground] back to the battery.

My problem is this, the switch current comes from the ECU to the relay, i've had the car really hot and i only get 0.1 volts at the switch wire, engine cold its 0.04, is 0.1 the correct switching voltage or am i looking at the ECU being the problem?

I hope some one can help , if i know its the relay i'll order one!

Many thanks, Gareth

RE: RADIATOR RELAY PROBLEMS

Its a bit of a prblem getting one of these over inthe UK Chrysler are asking about $120 and the local dealer won't return my emails now!!

I've seen one on Ebay.com [USA ebay] but the part number is one letter different mine is 04707286AD the ebay one ends AF would it be OK? The other numbers are different, are these batch codes etc?

Thanks , Gareth.

Hi AD that is the number off your old relay is it not? I do believe the new one would have superseded to an AF. Your local dealer should be able to tell you this so I would say it should be ok.

RE: RADIATOR RELAY PROBLEMS

Hi Merlin
The dealer gave me the new part number, that one ends AB !!

So you think if it ends in A something its OK? i'm relucant to pay $120 when they are on Ebay.com for $29.95, i know mailing to the UK will cost but its likley to be less than $90!
Over there Chrysler parts seem to be far les expensive, over here Xhrysler make out that they are a premium brand like BMW and charge similar prices!

I'll call the dealer tomorrow ask him whats going on,
thanks for your help.

HI
Did some checking 04707286AD supersides to a AF then AI then 05017491AB so the one on e-bay is a very old part number but should work but i would sugest fitting a later relay. The price I show is £53.75+VAT

RE: RADIATOR RELAY PROBLEMS

Hi Merlin, thanks for doing the checking ,
i've ordered the AF one off Ebay.com. The dealer here in the UK rang me back today, i don't think he was best pleased that i'd got one. £53.75 plus VAT will be the £63.15 i was quoted,. I payed under $60 (£30) delivered to the UK, so i'm a happy bunny:)

if ever i'm in a breakers yard i'll get one as a spare too.

I'll let you know how i get on,
Cheers Gareth

RE: RADIATOR RELAY PROBLEMS

SORTED!!! :):)

I got a relay via E-bay.com half the prices of ChryslerUK even with the mailing from Texas!

Fitted but had to wait 3 days until i could take the car out for a run to check fan operation, its all good.

Looks live One Volt is the correct current for the relay to switch at.

I'm going to get the Air-con re-gassed just to be safe.

Thanks to all who have offered advice & given thier time to resserchand reply.
