Default Sensor, Fuse or My Imagination? '97 LXi

ok, I have an '97 LXi with AWD and 3.8 V6.

Anyway, last three days or there about. We've had this issue where within about the first 10 minutes or so, the Speedometor and RPM arms jump and act wildly, and then it's fine and behaves rest of the trip. Just yesturday morning though it did that, and when I was in reverse. I stepped on the gass peddle and the engine made the normal noise, but it didn't move. I threatend to send it to the junk yard if it didn't "behave" and just then and there it moved. But, I noticed when it wasn't moving, the little indicater ring around the R had dissapeared.

Then it behaved the whole drive (about 55 miles), I left it sitting in the parking structure at Disneyland, came out about 7:30pm that night, it had sat since about 8:45am. And then I started it, and the Speedometer and RPM things both went crazy for much longer than had in the past couple days. I had to take it to nearest gass station as the front left tire has an apparent slow leak. But, then after I had the air in the tire, my sister noticed the Check Engine Light was on. It stayed on, personally I think it was on since the parking structure, she thinks since I put the air in the tire. And then going out of the gass station, both the Speedometer and RPM thing went crazy again. I went maybe 2-3 blocks and parked it in the Denny's lot, and called the tow truck. I just didn't feel like dealing with it after all that.

Now, the kicker. When the tow guy finally got there, he turned it on, backed up etc. Just fine. Not one ounce of complaint or attitude. Even when it was backed off the tow truck at home. Same thing, Just fine.

So, is it a Sensor? Fuse? If it only did it when I was driving it, I'd swear the little stinker just hates me, but even when my Mom drives it (when it happend first couple times) it does it. So I know it's not just me.

Did I over react having it towed home? Is it just my imagination? I even tried starting it this morning just to 'test it' and it's fine. Ugh.
