Default Smoke from radiator area

Hello,

I have a 2002 grand voyager, its done 192,000 miles.

Last week when I stopped in our driveway I noticed some steam/smoke coming out of the grill, when I popped the bonnet, there was white smoke coming up from inbetween the rad fans and the radiators. On the manifold there is a 'splater' mark which is white. The radiator smells hot and has a distinctive smell.

I thought the radiator had leaked, so I used a radiator leak stopper.

Today I took out the car and it started to smell really hot and the smoke started to come off the rad area again.

Has anybody had similiar problems or any idea what the problem is, the engine temp is normal and I have checked the levels on brake and power steering levels, which are fine.

Its a bit blaffling!!!

"so I used a radiator leak stopper."
This is not a solution to your prob if anything u made it worse by clogging up more then just a leak. There is nothing baffling about it fix the original leak correctly.

Can be tough to trace when it's hot and vapor is spewing everywhere. Sounds like you either have a leaking radiator cap, upper radiator hose, or most likely the radiator itself has sprung a leak. Check the hose and cap connections. May be easier to do this using a pressure tester. It's a hand pump that connects to the radiator cap port. Pump it up to pressurize the system then look for the leak. In the US many parts stores loan them out. You can buy them here for $30. Don't know what's available in the UK.

Have to agree. The leak stopper was a bad move.

My opinion: don't try 'homemade repair' and go ot service, I suffered becouse of this, my radiator 'leave' me in the 'right' moment at the middle of a holiday trip, becose I've been heard about this "radiator leak stoper" too :X so..cheap cost expensive.
