Default smokin' diesel

Hi all,

Im new to your forum and need advice regarding a 2.5 CRD which is smoking quite a lot. I had an MOT fail on the smoke test, showing 3.5 l/m.
I took it away and put some injector cleaner in the tank and gave it a good blast, took it back reading was 2.5 l/m so it passed, just - job done!
But Im still concerned as its still smoking quite a lot and there obvoiusly something thats not right. Its black smoke so its unburnt fuel, right? The airfilter is new and it starts first time no probs, even when really cold, so compression is OK?
There's no smoke on tickover and its running smoothly, and it still pulls well. But when you floor it there is black smoke then it clears. I notice it when driving more of the time (not that easy with blacked out windows!).
Didnt realise it had a VM engine , always thought these had DC.
Are VM,s still good for 115K miles?

I will probably take it to a diesel specialist ( or should I go to a VM specialist?)for diagnosis but wanted to get an idea first, always better if you look like you know what they're talking about!

Simon

I'm curious as to what injector cleaner you used as it's obviously effective - I'm using Redex blue in normal use, but would be nice to give it a single blast with a good cleaner.

I think it's pretty normal for diesels to smoke when you floor the accelerator (though more experienced people on here may correct me on this), I'd say that as long as it's clear when you are driving normally, that it's probably OK.

Possible candidates

1. Injectors need servicing
2. EGR Valve
3. Wastgate actuator
