Default Transmission compatibility question.

A friend has a Chrysler Town & Country with a bad transmission. She told me it was a 2000 model year, with the 3.8L V6, FWD. I got a replacement transmission from a "full service" yard (they delivered it). The minivan got here, and it's a 2005 model (with traction control, if that matters). The interchange guide says the transmission is different. Can I used the 2000 model year transmission in this Town & Country? What is the difference? Can I fix it with a 'tune' and make it work? Or do I really need to get a 2005 transmission from one with Traction Control? The parts yard wants a 25% restocking fee ($100) on this one, so if I can make it work, I'd rather do that. The question is, what is the difference?
