Hi Folks,

I have an 02 Grand Voyager which has a seized rear handbrake linkage. Are these easy to replace myself..? I have been quoted loads of money from the main dealer when the parts are only £40.00.

Is there anything I should know before I attempt this repair myself..?

Sorry I won't be able to help you out with advice, but my 02 handbrake is not working either. What do you mean by seized? Is it with the cable or the mechanics right at the caliper? I haven't made an inspection of mine yet, but if I do, and start working on it, I'll let you know.

I'm not too sure. It failed the MOT because of the near side brake not working properly and it's been to the dealer today who informed me the linkage has seized..? I know no more than that. I will buy the parts from them (a linkage set) for £40 or so so it can't be that bad.

Does your handbrake lever pull all the way up but still not hold the car. There was a recall on these (which mine went in for) and they chane the handbrake lever and mechanism under it. Apparently they jump out a few teeth or something. Best check with the dealer if this is the issue.

Right Guys - Serious help needed.

I have the car apart and have replaced the hand brake linkage - The old one was badly corroded. I have put plenty of copper slip on the new one so it should last a while. My question is...

Does anyone know how to put it all back together again.

It looks like the old drum brake setup behind the disk. I can work out how all the springs go and can put the whole mechanism back together and working in my hand but not in place on the car. It just won't seem to slide back in. There must be a simple thing as the dealer quoted an hour and a half to do both sides. I've been out there for 4 hours and not done one side yet..!!! It will not fit strainght on as the wheel hub (5 bolts for the wheel) is in the way and no matter which way I try it won't go.

Any step by step guides to replace would be a life saver...

Please help if you can as I can't use the car until I've got it back on.

I will look it up in my shop manual tonight when I get home from work. Don't know if it will help much or not by then.

OK Ash, don't know if you figured it out yet, but here we go...
1 Connect the parking brake actuating lever to the parking brake cable.
2 Install the trailing shoe.
3 Install the hold down pin and spring.
4 Install parking brake actuating strut (lower half)
5 Install the auto adjuster, tension clip, and upper return spring (upper half).
6 Install leading shoe (make sure you put the parking brake actuator plate from the old shoe on the new shoe with retaining clip)
7 Install hold down pin and spring (on leading shoe)
8 Connect upper return spring to leading shoe (need tool?)
9 Attach automatic adjustment lever (to leading shoe)
10 Attach actuating spring (to lever)
11 Connect top lower return spring (need tool)
12Connect bottom lower return spring.
Hopefully that will do it for you. (or hopefully you've already figured it out)
