Hello FRENCHY62

the problem is the smaller space saver battery that was fitted to these models as chrysler relocated the ecm and added an extra relay to the inside front rail making the space for the battery smaller many dealers here in the UK know this and recommend an upgrade to a more powerfull battery simlair to the one i fitted a ( VARTA Silver Dynamic type E44 which is 12Volt 77ah 780 amp ) . in the older version voyager 2.5 diesel a 12volt 99 amp battery was fitted which was bigger in length but really was upto the job i would recommend you fit a more powerful battery like the one i fitted.

Regards
Peter

Question

Hi Scary spider

Read your thread about the varta battery. I think I need to do this mod. Last year the dealer replaced my Optima battery with a Mopar 48AH ! (Just a bit bigger than my daughters 1.25 Ford Fiestas battery!). Can't have the interior lights on for more than about 15 mins or you risk not starting, even after a couple of 100 mile trip, and cold weather really makes it struggle. I went back to Chrysler but they don't want to know.
Did you have to extend the positive leads as well? Or is there sufficient slack.

Regards

After searching for a while, I finaly found this EXIDE MAXXIMA 900DC BATTERY and it works. Roughtly the same size as the original redtop battery so it just slots in perfectly. The only problem is its price though...

This is where I got mine from http://www.electroquestuk.com/produc...oID=433&page=1

Hi rodger

No i just extended the ground leads you dont have too but i didnt want to have them stretched and wanted to run them under the battery tray, also since doing the orignal modifaction i have re-routed them back to the front of the the battery as orignaly located and not under the battery tray shortening them again by 3 inches still allowing plenty of free play in them.

Regards
Peter

thanks scaryspider
this time i understand. i'll change my battery for the one you say VARTA 77AH 780AMP.
for information: the no starting doesn't depend of trip or no trip. i can trip 300kms and no starting after this or having difficulties to start. it just depends a lot of the whether: if it's cold like this time, i have great difficulties to start.
Have you heard of the cause of the dvd source?
What do you think of the lateral echappement (exhaust) when you stop your car ( in winter) . I think it's the car-heating (warming) who continue to works during a few minutes. I think this can use a lot of battery, no?
i have the car since 2 years (70000kms). The precedent owner change the baterry for a "gel" mopar 45a at 50000kms. I change the battery for a normal battery 70A next year but i dont know the ...AMP ?? but i allways have problem since this time.
anyway, tomorrow, i go to change the battery
good end of year 2010.
best wishes for 2011 and a chrysler without problem.
