Voyager MK2(94') 2.5td gearbox oil
Hi guys,
I've recently picked up a Voyager in relatively good nick, almost free of charge! The previous owner had filled petrol by mistake, abandoning the car in Norwegian badlands after the filter had clogged. I got her running after a night of cursing resulting in an external fuel tank temporary fix. We're in the process of getting her spick and span again, and I'd like to change the gearbox oil as I suspect it hasn't been done correctly over the years (noisy when reversing). As much as I know about engines, very little applies to gearboxes unfortunately.
Now I've read that 10w40 should be used in place of the manuals' 5w30 specification; due to threatening the copper sync ring configuration. However, I'm not sure if this only applies to the 96- models? What oil should I use?
The current oil looks clean, and has a reddish tint.
Otherwise the car is great! Despite the bad press these machines seem to get, I'm pleasantly surprised!
Appreciate any help!
Jason

my voyager iz from '97.
I'll tell you my expirience with gearbox oil.
30 kkm's ago, I filled it with 10W40 synthetic oil (in fact, HC-hydrocracked) and it feals that the gear change is slower then before, when I had 5W30 in it. especially when it gets warmer, when it reaches operating temp, becouse 30 weight oil is thinner then 40 weight on those temperatures.
so next time (every 50 kkm), I'm getting good old 5W30 (also HC) as it was recomended few years ago.
