voyager thermostat
 

I run a 2004 voyager diesel CRD and have been told that I need to buy the complete thermostat housing not just the 'stat.
I have been quoted a price of £110.
This seems rather an expensive way to fix the problem,
I am hoping somebody out there can advise me of a cheaper way.

- MOPAR stats only are about £20 cheepo pattern parts are less

Yep, its the complete housing that needs changing. Actually did mine this weekend gone. Bought mine off ebay from a guy in Lativa for £56 delivered

Its not difficult to do, but does take some time. Mainly due to the location.

On all other voyager engines (and most engines in general) the housing has a removable section to allow the actual thermostat to be replaced, meaning you only have to spend about £5 on a new thermostat.

Unfortunately the whole thermostat housing has to be replaced on the 2.5 and 2.5 CRD. When I did mine a couple of years ago, the only option was the dealer part at £150! However those Lativian thermostats on ebay are exactly the same part as the dealer stocks. Both are made by BEHR and are identical. So save yourself £100 and get one of those!

The job is fiddly due to the location of the stat down the back of the engine. If you are doing it yourself you will absolutely need a remote spring release tool (looks like pliers but with 2ft of cable and jaws at the end of the cable) to get the spring clips off the coolant pipes.
