Question What does the IPM unit do on a 2005 CGV

Morning

Can anyone tell me what the Inteligent Power Module (IPM) on the above does on the car? is this an interface between the various electronic components around the vehicle and the Main Instrument Cluster (MIC) and the diagnostic plug on board?

DESCRIPTION
The Integrated Power Module (IPM) is a combination of the Power Distribution Center (PDC) and the Front Control Module (FCM). The IPM is located in the engine compartment, next to the battery.(INTEGRATED POWER MODULE). The PDC mates directly with the FCM to form the IPM. The PDC is a printed circuit board based module that contains fuses and relays, while the FCM contains the electronics controlling the IPM and other functions. This IPM connects directly to the battery positive through a four pin connector. The ground connection is through two other connectors. The IPM provides the primary means of voltage distribution and protection for the entire vehicle.

OPERATION
All of the current from the battery and the generator output enters the Integrated Power Module (IPM) through a four- pin connector on the bottom of the module. Internal connections of all of the power distribution center circuits is accomplished by a combination of bus bars and a printed circuit board

Going on from the above would I be right in thinking that this would act as an interface between the ABS module and the Main Instrument Cluster with the ABS indicator and the diagnostic plug?

no it does not act as a interface one plug under the dash will talk to all the computer provided U have an expensive enough scanner that will allow it to talk to them.

OK So what would prevent the ABS light coming on when you first put the ignition key in? the engine starts as normal then the abs light will come on along with the park light? the ABS CAB module has been replaced and all the local wiring to the CAB module checked?

get the codes scanned first see what the abs light came on for I will not guess and tell u the whole list of things that could be wrong.

The problem is that the Chrysler dealship cannot communicate with the ABS unit so they cannot read the codes? I did trace the PCI bus line from the ABS module back to the IPM unit and the block diagram indicates that the diagnostic plug is connected at the other end to the IPM unit, continuity of the cables are good and so this is why I was asking if the IPM was defective?
