Some of the ZF gearboxes are so called "Sealed for life" which is a load of crap as they tend to fail about the 80-90k mark! There is always away of getting the box oil out! You need an ATF+4 FULL synth fluid! I use a suction device that goes down the dip stick! Changed about 6 . 5 pints of oil! I have done it this way as I have heard that doing a full change can cause problems. The sump doesn't have a drain plug on it! But you can buy a sump from tbe States that have one. I have bought a genuine gearbox filter from the main dealer! But that won't go in untill the car hits 120k! Got 92K on now! When I do that, I will change the sump pan and filter all in one..,

I saw a U-tube video in which an american wag called ZF auto-boxes "sealed for death"...
And this from a german, I said a GERMAN manufacturer!

Somewhere on the net there is an entire website dealing with the S-type Jag's ZF box and it's sticky, 'bucking-bronco' action. Worth a look if you can find it.

p.s. If you ever contemplate buying an S-type, for heaven's sake, read this fully.

I love to ride "automatic" since I am used to drive my Mercedes 190 automatic and love every bit it. The Benz did 230.000+ kilometres and still shifts like brand new. The 190E 2.3 is my spare car now..

Looking for my current Chrysler, many car dealers in Holland warned me not to buy a Chrysler with automatic gear.
Now I read about the ZF problems it seems the only brand to build perfect automatic transmissions is Mercedes Benz...
I think I am happy my Voyager has manual gear box

Amazing how many faults that Jaguar owner reports.. One would not expect that with a car from that class and the reactions of the Jaguar customer care are very poor.
Someone I know with a Mercedes S500 found some faults in his car during holidays and within a day a MB team in a bus arrived to fix the faults on the spot.
