Default Whiney Town and Country

Just purchased a 2005 Town and Country Touring... 34000K... Excellent condition except for a varying pitch whine from the engine.
Pitch and volume increase with increased revs.Loud and constant when idling. Whine present always, although itseems to kick in after the firstminute of driving.

This cannot be the only car to have this problem. Got a solution?

Spoke to a couple of techs and get the feeling no one knows what they are talking about. Have had several ideas put forward, but all guesses.

In addition, I notice the gas milage isvery poor...15 K to 100L in the city. I also own a 1997 T&C so have a good compariuson.it's gas milage is more like 12.0K to 100L

Car sceduled for service on Friday A 21, and I want to avoid a Remove and Replace job for the wrong reason, even if it is under warranty'

Knowledgeable feed back appreciated.

Thanks for the response.
If it's the alternator, will the noise modify at times? Anything I should be noting to help the techs?

it will change if the engine is higher speed yes same with the PS pump if they have a long screw driver hold it up to your ear and touch the alt or PS pump and rev the engine see which is louder if any

Thanks again.
I take the vehicle in to a dealership tomorrow and will discuss with them our communication.

Any comments about the poor gas mileage?

Hi,
Thought I'd let you know that I had the alternator changed and the noise disappeared.

Because of my driving habits, I have the van doing 10.5L for every 100 k in the city and 9.0L on the highway...thats verified by gas tank and trip meter readings.
Thanks for your input. Hope this feed back helps.
Jane
