Default New to forum. Need help 96 Cirrus trans

Hello everyone this site looks great, nice to see people helping others who are at their wits end. And speaking of that I have a 96 Cirrus with 100,000 on it and the trans is going into neutral while driving, it also stays in neutral when you first put it into gear then after a few seconds goes into gear. The fluid level is fine, there are no codes coming up and also sometimes when you first start the car the digital odometer does not light up and the tach just sits there at then suddenly both come alive. Any chance the trans issue has to do with the external shift solenoid on the side of the trans. Thanks.

The transmission shift solenoid could have to do with the problem, but I would check the transmission range sensor first. Also the filter in the bottom of the trans, if that gets clogged up it could delay it going into gear.
