Default 95 cirrus won't start

95 cirrus, 110k miles. started car, left running to warm up, was stalled when i came back out to leave. won't start. Cranks but no start.
what i know: fuel pump is running. It's getting gas
Plugs were checked, oil in tubes. This was cleaned out and plugs replaced. Timing belt appears to have been replaced.
They checked distributor and rotor, cleaned up and put back. Looked ok
It has spark. Ether doesn't work
Compression very low.
o2 sensor taken off to check if cat converter plugged still no start.

It hasn't had much heat, thermostat probably needs to be replaced. I read somewhere that another person had no start problem and it turned out being the thermostat was bad and it wouldn't circulate antifreeze so car wouldn't start. Does that make sense at all?
Any ideas?

compression low as in less than 100psi? even if you had low compression with the use of ether thru the intake not thru filter housing engine should pop as long as you have spark.
My BET is that you HAVE WEAk OR NO SPARK. start looking in the ignition circuitry.
