MyGiG RER hard drive swap
Hi,
I have a 2008 Town & Country with the RER radio. The hard drive failed, so I pulled the drive and connected it to my linux pc with an ATA-to-usb cable. I can see the qnx partitions, but the drive definitely has a "click of death" and will not allow me to copy more than a few gigs of data before it dies. When that happens, I have to start over, anbd it inevitably dies again after a few minutes. So, the drive is just plain hosed. I REALLY do not want to replace the entire RER for $1700, since the only issue is this $50 hard drive. Do any of you have an image of your hard drive that could send me? I know I'm not the first person to clone an RER drive... my problem is that I have nothing to clone! Could somebody please help me out??? Thanks, Tim |
Nothing?? Nobody??
I used ddrescue to recover as much of the failed hdd as possible, and wrote that data to the replacement hdd... but it's still a no-go. I just need an image of a working hdd from an RER MyGIG! Anybody? Anybody? |
I have an image
Today . . I just happened to set up a download site for the RER disk image. I started uploading the image file to the web host about 30 minutes ago. Its $30 for the Clonezilla image to cover high-capacity hosting costs and effort.
The web page is 1 hour old and the Image Restore instructions aren't there yet. MyGig RER Hard Drive Replacement - Do it yourself |

Unfortunately for me, I just purchased a used RER hdd on ebay for $250. I posted in multiple forums, waited a long time, heard nothing, and figured it was hopeless. The first thing I did when I got the new drive was create a backup image for safekeeping :-) |
Hello, I am new to this forum :)
I have the same problem with my hardrive and I can`t fix it. I am from Romania, and there are not so many Chryslers here. Had somebody managed to get a working image for Mygig REZ ? Thank you verry much ! Stefan |

Hi please contact me i'm need your img assap. Please please contact me. Regards!
You might be in luck. I sold that van years ago, but I still have the hard drive that I purchased as a spare! |
FYI, the hard drive is a 30 GB Samsung "Duramatic" laptop-style 2.5" drive. Model number is HM031HC
I might be able to pull an image of the drive that I could send you, if you don't need the actual physical hard drive. |

Hello. Thank you very much for answering. I am very interested. a question. Do you have the disk image or the hdd? I ask because I am in Mexico and maybe it will be difficult to send the hdd here, I don't know. How could I do to buy it?
Do you have the MyGIG taken apart? Swapping the hard drive is not hard once you get the MyGIG removed from the dashboard. If you could buy a 2.5" 30 GB IDE hard drive, then all you'd need is the image. That is why I still have the actual "Chrysler" hard drive. I used a Western Digital hard drive when I replaced my MyGIG drive, and I kept the "Chrysler" one as a safe backup. The Chrysler OEM hard drive is a Samsung "Duramatic" 30 GB 2.5" drive, model number HM031HC Someone HM031HC drives ebay for $162 which is totally crazy, because you can just use any IDE laptop drive, and they're like $10-$15 on ebay. If worse comes to worst, I will ship you my HM031HC hard drive for just the cost of shipping. I can't imagine it would be more than like $20. |

If you want, I can put my hard drive on ebay as a private listing, and that way I can get ebay discounted international shipping... |

Hi there, it looks like the hard drive was delivered. Have you swapped it in, and is everything working now? Just curious how you made out! I still think it's wild that you found me on this forum, and that I still had the hard drive from several years ago, and that I shipped it to Mexico!!

I have installed the disk. everything works great. I have disk space and maps working without problem. I really appreciate your help, I already have a backup of the disk so that the same thing doesn't happen again. It was amazing to have been able to find a replacement after such a long time. once again, thank you very much.
That is awesome! Glad it worked! And good idea making the backup... that's exactly what I did when I bought that replacement drive on ebay. |
