Power Steering Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
This particular car is an 02 PT, however this system appears to be common to most / many Chryslers in this time frame, hence post in General Forum:
Have OBD II Code 0551 - Power Steering Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
This may mean that the switch or wiring / connections may be bad. Turning wheel test shows that idle picks up from drop due to steering load, which tends to indicate it is working. However CEL comes back on after a short time, and it's getting obnoxious and tiring to keep resetting the codes.
After first time a check showed fluid level was nominally low; topped up. No apparent leaks. No obvious steering issues.
Apparently the switch also controls / monitors:
P0550 Power Steering Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0552 Power Steering Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input
P0553 Power Steering Pressure Sensor Circuit High Input
P0554 Power Steering Pressure Sensor Circuit Intermittent
If the main (only?) reason for this switch is to maintain proper idle, or perhaps monitor fluid level (pressure?), is there any reason why it can't be disconnected and let idle drop 100 rpms, and keep a check for leaks and on level.
If disconnecting is an option, would pulling either lead to the switch do it without causing other issues.
A description of location on a PT would be helpful to confirm other sources.
TIA,
Steve
