Default sebring 2.7 engine

I have owned a 1997 jxi with 2.5 motor, and car has 138000 no trouble at all just routine maintenance, just bought an 2001 with the 2.7 motor and a mechanic friend of mine told me they had multiple problems with timing chains breaking and oil sludge build up ect. I did a google search and found same issues with early year intrepid , concord, and sebring does anyone know if the 2001 was that same motor, THANKS SHELTON

i worked at a dealership, and those problems stem from imprpoer maintenance. people dont change the crankcase pressure valve, and it causes an overabundance of heat in the engine...

The 2.7Lemon was used from 98 thru 2002. Supposedly the problem was fixed after that. Read my post 2.7 junk. Also check out Centerforautosafety.com, intrepidhorrorstories.blogspot.com, cartracker.com, or dontbuyone.com. There have been 1000's of complaints on this engine and there will be a class action lawsuit coming soon! Read the reports for youself. Don't let anyone tell you the problems stem from poor maintenance. That is a load of crap! And don't ask a Chyrsler tech..he'll just blow smoke up your A... Mechanics say if you have one that is still running take it in and have the crankcase flushed. And switch to synthetic oil.

My 01 sebring LXi has a 2.7 and I have not had a single problem. This engine is very particular about mantianance. I have done a ton of research, and have found that studies done on this engine have shown that DC had not stressed the importance of the oil changes on this powerplant. The reason being that the oil journals are small and have a tendency to clog if not properly taken care of. I also believe the brand of oil you use contributes to the problem or lack of.
