Timing on 2017 3.6 Pentastar
While changing cam phasers, Pulled valve covers off, Brought engine to TDC compression on #1. Timing marks on phasers did not line up.
Engine would run fine most of the time but would periodically lose power. Have to shut engine off then restart and it would run good for a while then do it again. Replaced bunch of sensors, VVT solenoids, finally figured phasers needed replacing. Then saw this issue with the timing.
I don't have experience with this engine and I didn't think it would run like that. That's what has me baffled is how was it running smooth with it being out of time?
Question: Can this engine run and run smooth in idle if it is out of time?
Also is it possible for the engine to jump time or was this possibly from a previous bad repair??
Any thoughts appreciated!!
