Question Tin whiskers

Since the elimination of lead in solder to meet RoHS compliance, hair like tin strands known as "tin whiskers" have been growing in our electronic parts. They short out conductors, and in the case of high frequency items act as tiny antennas. Have any ET's, mechanics, or other curious types opened up failed modules to see if they could find and remove these beasts an save the part? This is a growing problem and it is not going away.
