When the system fails, it goes to the defrost mode by default. There's some failure somewhere that will need something to be replaced. It may be in the control head, the body computer or maybe in the wiring or maybe in the actuators in the plenum.
It's possible that there is a fault code stored in the computer that will help diagnose the problem.
Start here to see if you can retrieve the codes:

If that won't work you'll need to find a shop that has the equipment to pull those codes out of the computer. That may take some searching.
