Air conditioner
I have an 2006 Chrysler 300C. My air conditioner works a little bit. If it is real hot it does not work. In the mornings it blows cool air but not for long. I took it to Jiffy lube. The guy checked and said my fre-on was full or that I did not need any. I googled what could be wrong so I read my air filter may be clogged. So I googled how check the air filter but I finally realized my car does not have one.
The fan blows strong on all settings and it makes no noise. A few times I have noticed like fog coming through the vents. The temps have been reaching over 100 here in West Tn.
I want to take it in to a mechanic but I just know I will be taken advantage of with price. I say that because it happened already with a tire.
My husband recently passed. I never did anything with the car so no matter what any 1 would say I would not know any difference.
Could you offer me suggestions at what I might can do by googling how to do it? or
Give me some suggestions in what I should ask a mechanic to look at first or any advice? I would be thankful.

There could be many causes for your A/C not working. If you want to educate yourself so you can speak intelligently with a service technician, you might want to consider buying and reading up on a service manual. While you probably won't wind up doing your own repairs, studying the manual will give you an idea of what is wrong and what needs to be done to fix it and how long somebody who knows what he is doing should take to make the repair. You may also be able to see what parts might be needed and then you can look them up on line to get an idea as to how much they should cost.
Here's a link for a Haynes manual:

Good luck.

I agree. Their could be a number of things causing the issue. If the tech is accurate and the Freon level is good, then at least that one is ruled out. Although, this would be the easiest item to fix if it was low. Good news is that if the Freon is good, then you don't have any leaks in the condenser which is a common issue. Could be the compressor. Is it cycling? You should hear it clicking on/off when cycling and the RPM's will go slightly up/down when idle. Could be clogged lines or orifice tube. Could be the actuators for the air control box are not working/switching from heater core to fresh air or cabin air. Speaking of heater core, the "Fog" concerns me. This could be from a leaking heater core and what you are actually seeing is steam from the coolant. Do you smell anything "sweet"?
Reading and knowing how it all works does go in your favor. However, in the end, it will need to be looked at by a technician. If they try to throw a bunch of technical jargon, ask them to explain or show you what they are talking about. If you still don't understand, you can always request a detailed estimate in writing and then post it here for more advice. You can also seek a second opinion and estimate at a different shop. If they both give you the same results for issue, you should feel a little more confident with the necessary repairs. Then you can simply choose the cheaper estimate or the one you feel more confident with.
