Default hi new user from uk

hi im coggs from England... i have a grand voyager 2.5 diesel crd 2001 (y reg) the problem im having is when i put the key in the ignition and turn it once the engine starts to turn over and when i turn it to the second position it starts straight awayand runs fine.... then when i turn it off it keeps turning over so i have to stall the engine to stop it turning over...
any help would be greatly appreciated

Easiest first. Probably not the problem, but start by switching out the start relay with another like one it (key off of course). If that does not change anything. Go to the starter and remove the nut holding the small wire. Hold it on until the starter runs after start position, and then remove it from the post. If it continues running, it is the starter solenoid (part of the starter) hanging up.

Diesel engines are not like gas engines, the only way to stop a diesel is to cut off the fuel. Turning off the key should cut off the fuel. Your fuel cutoff is not working.

I perhaps misread that the starter motor was continuing to crank.

the starter does continue to crank when the key is taken out but it doesnt start so i think the fuel may be switched off...

thanks for advice
