I would hope that it means that in-plant quality will improve. The boys on the assembly line have got to know that their jobs are hanging by a thread and that they really need to be doing five-star work. My fear is that in the future, product innovation will suffer as fewer resources are available to make cars that people will want to buy.

The new Chrysler: The deal established a new company, called Chrysler Group LLC, after the former Chrysler LLC sold nearly all of its assets to the new firm.
Chrysler Group is 55% owned by the United Auto Workers union. The U.S. government holds an 8% stake and Canada a 2% share.
