After engine stops and sits overnight. When re starting in am there is a lifter tap for a few seconds and then stops. Any suggestions or advise? Is this normal?

Tap for a few seconds is "normal" for these engines ....kind of...
Miles on engine, oil change interval, oil level all part of the equation.
One of my M's 5000 OCI is usually quiet untill about 4000 then gets a little "tappy" in the morning. Oil analysis says oil is good etc.
There was a TSB on this issue, you could go thru and change the rockers/lash adjusters if it really bothers you but it is a fair ammount of work...
At 160k and 140K my M's can tap a little in the morning.....

Thanks for the response. I assumed that was the issue. Should I run the rack on it. I use Lucas additive to protect the cam. Any other advice? Really like the car, thanks for advice and input!

Run the rack ? I actually get that Unlike the big diesels our overheads are not adjustable.
Regular oil changes, Timing belt/water pump every 100k and enjoy
