300m instrument cluster illumination issue
2000 300m...been having an issue w/just the soft indigo backlights on the speedo and tach face not coming on when the headlight switch is activated...I have a Chilton repair manual, but reading their wiring schematics reqs a degree from MIT to comprehend! I have switched out a complete instrument cluster AND the headlight/foglight/interior lightswitch assy and still those indigo backlights will not illuminate, which tells me there is an elec wiring or a BCM signal sending issue... ALL of my other lights function-warnings, signals, 4 ways, ck engine, air bag, clock, radio, shifter, ashtray, etc...just not those soft indigo glow lights... I've even tore apart a spare instrument cluster and cannot even SEE any kind of bulb for these, which has me thinking they are an integral part of the white gauge faces...can anyone furnish me w/ a READABLE routing diagram for JUST THE indigo backlights, showing which of the 2 snap in housing the pin is on, AND what #pin it is AND HOW power is routed to this pin connection--directly from the BCM, or from the BCM, to the headlight switch assy, then to the cluster AND what connector on the BCM body and WHAT pin is the dedicated power supply for JUST THESE lights....hope I was specific enough to not req a long-running thread..thanks
thanx for the topic l;ink, but was unhelpful as 1, i really dont think a morpher is necc(plus the link didnt say what exact pn and conn # was need to be spliced, and 2, i've replaced the whole cluster w/a known good one and still no illumination...this is why i asked for a "simple to read" wiring route for this specific circuit....so I can see exactly where power is failing along my route
Since I was unable to obtain a specific power flow diagram for this specific circuit, I went after the complete BCM housing and sprayed the SNOT out of all the block connectors both male and female w/contact cleaner after removing all the block connectors and reconnecting them several times...dunno which exact pin was the culprit, or even IF it was a corroded pin issue, but now have the indigo illumination lights...what a PITA job gettin at the BCM body, tho-gonna need a few trips to the chiropractor for puttin my body into the contortions to work in this area...a 67yr old's body isnt as pliable as a young'un's is....hahahaha...thanks again for the replies..great site!!
