The 98 lxi is tossing the battery light on sporadically again. Didn't have an issue all winter. Then the heat hit and it's back. I had the battery tested it was bad so i replaced it. Put a new alternator on it no fix was getting no charge. Went and had it and the original tested and both came back good. Last night it came on I drove the last 2 miles I needed to. Jumped out and checked voltage and I was at 13.2 at the jump posts and could here the alternator frequency Humm. Went out to drive the car today got 5 feet battery light came on. Went to check voltage at the jump posts and I was at 12.2. Killed the car re cranked and I was at 11.9. I have replaced power cable, fixing to replace the ground. Ran a new alternator line to just check if that was the case and nothing. Fuseable link on the original was kinda burnt. Replaced that link with more fuseable link so now I have 2 alternator lines and still the same.
Ssr fuse good automatic shut relay good fuse n good. Alternator is not triggering. I out the other alternator back on that was good and it always gave a definite wine when it was charging and nothing. Not voltage out or anything.
Any ideas. Don't have much money to dump into the car and I can't just go get another vehicle either...

if you have 12v at the alternator the fuse is not the issue. if you have a good ground at the alternator and both the battery and connections are good alternator bench tested only thing remainder would be the PCM which is what controlled the alternator
I order an external regulator kit and installed it and the alternator charges at 14.5 volts. But now the alternator is getting so hot you can't touch it. I started to smell it so I killed the car and unplugged everything. Think I'm going to add a ground wire from the alternator to the battery. If this don't work I found a place that does new ecus programmed to your vin I'll go that route.
its staying at a constant 14.5 because the pcm regulates using pulsewith modulation to control the voltage output. you incessance took that away and made it charge 100% all the time so yeah still will burn and melt when its not designed to have 100% full charge all the time.

The pcm is not doing anything. The kit i order is designed to fix the mopar issues. Many others have had success. Unless I'm over looking it.
Waiting for flagship 1 on the updates on if the ecm that sent me was doa or just not setup proper. Also waiting for quickstart alternator to get back with me on troubleshooting the external alternator regulator since the alternator super heats when I had that setup in the car
Ok so quick start said the external kit would not work with the Mitsubishi unit alternator the car has. Also said that the alternator is internally regulated but everything i find shows it to externally. Still waiting on flagship 1 on the ecm.
