Well..I just posted in the new member section and here I am with my first question.

The car is a 92 New Yorker Fifth Ave that has a factory alarm system. The key fob that I got with the car works intermittantly. The previous owner said that he changed the battery in the fob and had the same problem. This wouldn't concern me so much if I knew how to turn off or disengage the factory alarm/security system. For now I have to turn the key in the passenger door lock twice before I hit unlock to get the drivers door open. He said that if I just try to get in with the key on the drivers side the alarm willsound and the starter will be disabled.
This car is going to be a gift for my 75yr old mother in about a month so I really would like to either fix the problem or get around it so she doesn't have the hassles of always going to the passenger side first to get in ...

Some help would be awesome...
