Default 04 Sebring 2.7 engine replacement

Simplifying from my other thread:

I put a 2004 stratus engine that used SBEC into a 04 Sebring that is using NGC. I changed the flywheel to the original 32 slot flywheel. I changed the cam tone ring to NGC style.

Car runs but still won't accelerate past 2200 or so just like it did with other tone wheel installed.

I didn't change cam sprocket just the tone wheel by drilling out rivets and using bolts.

The car had p0016 and p0344 before.

Car is showing p0344 now.

thanks for the responses.

I went out this morning to attempt to figure out the situation. I had probed all cam sensor and crank sensor wiring and everything was fine. I attached my o scope and bingo. Cam signal was there but erratic and terrible. I pulled the intake, valve cover, back off and got to investigating things. I discovered something that some here might want to take note of.

The cam sensor was hitting the tone ring. When you tighten the sensor it may **** the tip allowing it to contact the tone ring. After further investigation with other cam sensors I had lying around, *which were mopar original* and the sensor in the car was not. The sensor body was longer *1/16* on the cheap parts store sensor allowing the sensor tip to **** into the tone ring.

Once I noticed this I placed a thin washer between the sensor and head and then tightened the sensor down. I rolled the engine over a couple times to verify good runout and airgap. Put her back together and Bingo. Nice O wave on the scope. Running perfect.

I was stupid not to go with the original sensor or check the airgap and runout before I reassembled. Took it for granted.

32 window flywheel
NGC tone ring. I replaced tone ring only by drilling and bolting.
Replaced wiring harness from the SBEC3 to the NGC wiring harness.
The timing chain, waterpump, guides, and everything looked as though they had been replaced fairly recently is why I didn't replace everything.

Thanks for the help and to all that post here.

You're not the only one to be bitten by an aftermarket cam or crank sensor. I would go almost as far as to say it is an epidemic. I see it on a very regular basis.
