Default 04 Sebring Sedan 4cyl - Front Rotor Replacement

How many bolts NEED to come out to get the caliper off the rotor and what size are they? It looks like two 18mm mounting bolts to me. Can anyone verify ?

18 or 21, I cant remember right off hand. Yes, the two large bolts. If you are putting new rotors on, you'll need to compress the caliper piston some to make room before you put them back on.

-It's held on with two caliper slide bolts. Sorry, but I haven't changed the pads on mine yet, so I can't help you with the bolt size.

There is a caliper mount he's talking about. You can take the whole mass off with the two large bolts on the back side. If you just take the caliper off, the rotor is still trapped by the mount. The caliper slide bolts are either 10 or 13MM. I can never remember, they always change stuff...lol.

Thanks guys. Quick question, is there any way to confirm these bolt sizes? I have various manuals but no dice..

Long story short, I had the tire off.. realized I didn't have the wrench I needed -- got pissed, put the tire on.. without jotting down the believed size. I'm THINKING 18... but can anyone confirm? I'm pretty sure it's not as large as a 21. Fairly certain I tried a 19 and it was too large, while a 17 was too small --- but the frustration can F with your memory

-Well that bites! I never had a car where I had to remove another bracket after removing the caliper just to get the rotor off. Oh well. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it...

They WERE 18mm bolts. Bought an 18mm wrench and a 21mm socket. Once the socket I arrived, I knew it was too large.

Anthem, I think you are misunderstanding.. lol. Two bolts removes the caliper FROM the bracket that it mounts to, thus freeing up the rotor. I suppose you could replace the pads while you have the caliper off, though it'd be more of a pain.

If I recall that job, you need an oddball size Allen wrench on the caliper slide pins. It was something like 7mm. Every allen wrench set sold has 6mm and 8mm but not 7mm. I bought a 7mm size that comes in a socket you can use with a 3/8ths ratchet.
I guess you can do it without removing the slide pins but the better way is to pull them and use a little high-temperature grease on them when putting it back together.
