Default 1999 JXi Crank no start please help

Driving on the HWY today the check engine light came on then the car died right afterward.

I could crank it over but it would not start. I have read the other thread pertaining to this exact car but would like some other opinions. I was first thinking the Crank sensor since I have fuel pressure. I am by myself right now so I can't check for spark very easily.

Any other thought besides the dist. that might be causing this?

Thanks.

Does the keytrick to get the OBD code work on that vehicle?

Could be a broken timing belt.

there's a lot of things it could be. the 2.5's are a funny critter. water pump seizes and takes out the timing belt... pretty common on high miles.

go to the basics... does it have fuel pressure at the rail? does it have spark?

no spark. Crank sensor is good, no cam sensor so I am guessing it is the distributor since thats really all thats left. Going to get on pulling it out tomorrow.

What is telling you the crank sensor is good? is it new/recently new?

Mine died with no codes whatsoever... once the crank sensor was changed it was much better!

The 2.5 cam sensor is in the distributor.... along with the coil...
so...

If you have NOT changed the crank sensor I'd do that FIRST... THEN
spend the bux for the distributor!

If the crank sensor is bad you will get no RPM's while cranking the engine. Since I was getting a reading on the scanner I knew it was good. I finished up the car on Sunday. The problem ended up being the distributor.

Total cost was $270
