2.7l EER backwards compatibility?
i have a friend with a 2004 sebring with the 2.7l LH EER engine. long story short his engine is blown and we are planning on swapping it with the "same" engine. ive found a 2007 2.7l sebring engine with 17000km for $850, or a 2006 sebring 2.7l engine with 47000km for $750.
my only real question about the swap is if these engines are backwards compatible? i dont know much about these models but wikipedia informs me this car has used the same base engine with minor revisions for a good part of a decade. are these changes at ecu level or are there physical differences within the engine or how it mounts?
looking at different parts available for this car it looks like certain things (starter/alternator) are 03-06 (2nd gen), and others are for 3rd gen (07+), all while wikipedia lists both generations as having the same basic engine.
if anyone could let me know if either the 07 (ideal) or the 06 would work in his 04, and if so what parts/sensors i should carry over from the original engine (if necessary).

It looks as if you want someone to tell you it is a go then if it don't work out for you you have some one to blame.
This is my experince with my chyrsler engine swap I took a 2005 3.5 from a 300 and put it in a 2003 300m not a direct swap. To get it to fit I had to strip both engines down to a short block and put all the 2003 parts on to the 2005 block. It was alot of work I had days where I ran into roadblock after roadblock and spent more time running into towm for parts and pullers than working on the motor. Today I have to get the oil pan on and it is ready to fire it up. The basic block was the same and all the machining was still present on the block that I needed for the 2003 parts to work.
I too got a good deal on the motor, but if I add all my time it took to make it happen. I would of been way ahead of the game to pay $200 more for a direct bolt in.
